Rang VI
Learning interactively on the whiteboard
Irish
We are very proud that we all have fluent Irish. We constantly strive to improve the breadth of our vocabulary and accuracy of language usage. We use a beautiful scheme ‘Séideán Sí’. In addition, we explore novels such as 'Bád sa Chuan' and Ó Luibíní Lú. We have a comprehensive collection of Irish reading material in the class library, which read during free time.
English
We have many opportunities to read in the senior classes. We enjoy silent reading time. Hello Universe and Starry Links are the English books we explore. We really like stories and poetry and learn many interesting facts in our Matter of Fact book.
Mathematics
The maths curriculum for Rang VI class is very exciting. We learn a lot about angles and shapes. We use our maths skills to complete activities about time, length, area, capacity and weight. We play maths games in class. Sometimes we go to the younger classes and help them play maths games, during 'Shared Maths'.
Social, Environmental and Scientific Education (S.E.S.E.)
We work as historians, geographers and scientists in this area of the curriculum. We enjoy science experiments in class.
Visual Art
We love art. We create works in a variety of media. We spend time practising sketching skills. We enjoy painting, modelling clay and working with fabric and fibre. We are interested in looking at works of art created by famous artists.
Music
The Right Note is our music book. We learn a lot about the theory of music. We sing songs in English and Irish. Everyone in the class learns to play a range of tunes on the tin whistles. Children who play other instruments are encouraged to bring them to school and perform in class and at school events.
Physical Education (P.E.)
Swimming lessons begin in January. We are excited about going to the pool each week. We understand the importance of water safety and love learning new swimming strokes. We play hockey, Gaelic football, soccer, hurling, dodge-ball, badminton, rounders and basketball. We participate in a range of outdoor activities especially during the summer term.
Drama
We love drama in Rang VI. We enjoy re-enacting stories and poems in English and Irish. We are continuously learning and developing more dramatic techniques.
Spanish
Gaelscoil Chaladh an Treoigh has been part of the Department of Education and Science Pilot Project on Modern Languages since 2008.
Spanish is taught to our Rang V and VI pupils for one and half-hours per week. We chose Spanish as it is the next most important world language after English and is spoken widely in North and South America.
