Home-School Communication

Gaelscoil Chaladh an Treoigh, acknowledge the primary role that parents/guardians play in their children’s education and the importance of good communication between the school and the parents/guardians of the child. To this end the following policy has been devised.

Responsibility of Parents/Guardians

It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to update the school office of any changes of address or contact numbers. Parents/guardians who are separated should ensure that they provide the school with their current postal address and email address if they require the above information.

Method of Communication

All formal communications from the Board of Management, Principal or teaching staff, shall be addressed to the home address of the child as given in the school roll.

Messages from the class teacher to parent/guardian and vice versa will be conveyed through the homework journal (Ranganna I – VI) and notes (Infant Classes).

Email is used for general communication and information, as appropriate. Where no email contact is provided and/or when deemed necessary, information is sent home via the child.

Textaparent is also used for unpredictable events and important reminders. This service guarantees that essential messages are received by the child’s parents/guardians. It is limited to one number per family. If your family choose to designate an alternative number please inform the school office. This is a non-reply service and only functions as a means of notification.

School Website & Notice Board are used for general information on school events and general activities in the school

Parent Teacher Meetings are held each year in November for Ranganna I-VI. Parent Teacher meetings for the infant classes are held in February each year. Parents/guardians will be advised in advance regarding the date and time.
Written School Reports A written school report will be issued for each pupil in June. Duplicate reports will be issued upon receipt of written request.

Arranging an Appointment with the Class Teacher

The class teacher is the first point of contact for parents/guardians. If you have any queries or concerns regarding your child, please contact your child’s teacher who will work with you to find resolution.
You can arrange a meeting by:-

Writing a note in the child’s homework journal (note for Infant classes) requesting an appointment
Ringing the secretary’s office on 061 339678 between 8:30a.m. and 2.00 p.m.

Please indicate the nature of your concern e.g. class work, behaviour, personal. Every effort will be made to meet with you at the earliest appropriate opportunity.
There are times when a meeting is unnecessary, and when a phone call will suffice. The teacher will advise you of same
Please note that if there is a change in home circumstances (e.g. illness, separation or anything you feel may affect your child), it is important to let the school know.

Individual Education Plan

In particular cases a meeting(s) between parents/guardians and school personnel shall be required to discuss a child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). Attendance at these meetings is confined to thechild’s parents/guardians and school personnel.

It should be noted a courteous demeanour is required when taking part in any aspect of this process and foul language or defamatory personal remarks are inappropriate and unacceptable.
